A look into Niche Horror
Greetings, and welcome to the first book Rec/Rev of the year. I'm going to do something different this time and talk about a genre instead, now while I am still new to this particular genre, I have noticed that there seems to be a lack of new or modern books written in it. I am off course, referring to Gothic. Gothic fiction, or Gothic horror, refers to a loose literary aesthetic of fear and haunting, using the architecture of the European Middle Ages as the settings for novels. The first Novel to claim itself Gothic was Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto. Gothic fiction is characterized by an environment of fear, oftentimes creating the threat of the supernatural, and the intrusion of the past upon the present. This is accomplished by the writer typically including physical reminders of the past, such as ruined building, these can include castles, religious buildings, and crypts.
