 Greetings, and welcome to the first book Rec/Rev of the year. I'm going to do something different this time and talk about a genre instead, now while I am still new to this particular genre, I have noticed that there seems to be a lack of new or modern books written in it. I am off course, referring to Gothic. Gothic fiction, or Gothic horror, refers to a loose literary aesthetic of fear and haunting, using the architecture of the European Middle Ages as the settings for novels. The first Novel to claim itself Gothic was Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto. Gothic fiction is characterized by an environment of fear, oftentimes creating the threat of the supernatural, and the intrusion of the past upon the present. This is accomplished by the writer typically including physical reminders of the past, such as ruined building, these can include castles, religious buildings, and crypts.  Hi. As you can probably tell by the title, this is the final post of 2024. I would like to thank all of you readers for staying with me, despite my unreliable nature as a writer and blogger. No need to worry though, 2025 has been scheduled. I will do my best to keep to the schedule, so expect new posts once a week around Tuesday.  One of the biggest and most underrated manga has recently gotten an anime adaptation. Yes, I am talking about DanDaDan, a supernatural romance comedy from Yukinobu Tatsu, it follows  Momo Ayase, a high school girl who believes in ghosts and spirits, and Ken  Takakura, whom Momo nicknames "Okarun", who believes in aliens but not ghosts. In a bet to determine who is correct, the two decide to separately visit locations associated with both the occult and the supernatural—Momo visiting the former, and Okarun visiting the latter. Momo is abducted by a group of aliens who accidentally unblock her chakras, enabling latent psychic abilities. Meanwhile, Okarun is possessed by a spirit who takes over his body. The story follows the evolving relationship between the two as they team up with each other and various school mates and family members to fight against the spirits and aliens.
