A Modern Twist on an Ancient Era
With the success of the Percy Jackson live action and future seasons having been green lit, lets talk about the original book series.
Rick Riordan is a best selling author of fantasy novels, inspired by ancient myths and legends, for young readers. While most people will recognize him for his 5 book series of the Olympians, he has other works that follow the same setting, for example the Kane Chronicles from the Egyptian mythologies, and Magnus Chase from the Norse. Rick Riordan's idea for the Percy Jackson series stemmed from bedtime stories for his son, who was also diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia, similar to out titular character.
The story premise of the Percy Jackson series is centered around 12 year old Percy Jackson, who learns he is a half-blood, a child of Poseidon, and it thrust into the world of heroes and monsters as he fights to save his mother and prove his innocence. And that's just the first book! What makes this series so amazing is that if has 3 sets of main stories that build from and continue the previous one.
The first story line is the Olympians, where Percy and his friends uncover a plot to overthrow the gods, set in motion by the Titans of old.
The second is Heroes of Olympus, which introduces us the Roman counterparts as, once again, Percy and his friends must save the world, but this time it's from the ancient Giants.
Third and lastly (that I know of) is the Trials of Apollo. Interestingly enough, this set follows Apollo and his journey of reclaiming his godhood, but that doesn't mean our beloved heroes are free to rest, as many of the original characters make an appearance and some even face the consequences of grudges between the gods.
Outside of the main storyline, there are various side stories from camp half-blood as well as cross-overs with Kane and Magnus.
The first time I read this series it was an absolute wild ride for my young self, and while I will die on the hill that the movies absolutely sucked, the new tv series isn't that bad, I Just hope it stays good.
