Is the rythm failing?
One of the more obscure genres in anime and manga is the music type, from idols and singers to DJ's and bands, the music genre usually consists of life lessons, amazing visuals and good music. This genre started gaining popularity from the likes of Love Live, Idol Master and K-On!
But is that still the case?
Over the years there has been no shortage of music-based anime, such as Sound! Euphonium, Paradox Live and BanG Dream. There are three new music anime that recently finished of their seasons that I want to talk about, and in my personal opinion, only one of them did good.
Let's start
Girls Band Cry,
Right of the bat this cover art looks amazing, the plot is just as good, it follows high school dropout Nina Iseri as she moves out in order to prove her independence, there she meets other dropouts and outcasts, and they form a band due to their shared love of music. Now you might be thinking: What's wrong with this? The answer is the animation.
Up next is one I felt the most upset about.
Whisper me a Love Song
Now the anime for this one shows its incomplete, having stopped on episode 10, I don't know why honestly. Again, this is a good anime, the story follows Himari Kino and Yori Asanagi as they navigate feelings and what it means to be in love. The animation and voice acting are amazing, the story was good until they brought in a love rival, for some reason they brought in a character that has seemingly no ties to the two main characters and have her try to break them up. If you're going to bring in a rival give them a good, solid reason.
And last but surprisingly the only one I couldn't find fault in.
Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night
But now see, this has me wondering if the music genre of anime is falling behind?
What are your thoughts?
