A Dark Turn from a Lighthearted series
What's up readers, it's that time of the month.
For this rendition of Anime Rec/Rev I want to talk about an anime that went darker than even I expected, BanG Dream! Ave Mujica: The Die is Cast.
Synopsis
Ave Mujica, the band to which Sakiko Togawa invited the members, was achieving commercial success through live performances and media exposure. A girl who had lost both the friends she had vowed to share her fate with and the house where she was born and raised. For what purpose does she bear the burden of another person's whole life and continue the band? She hides her past and her true face behind a mask, and tonight, she descends into the perfect miniature garden.
This part of the BanG Dream series was set to follows the 'secrete' band Ave Musica on its journey to stardom, however things take a dramatic turn when during the first concert, one of the band mates unmasks them all, without forewarning or permission.
From this point on we are shown as the band spirals into chaos, with arguments and infighting, with the latest episode showing Ave Mujika having disbanded, and giving viewers a glimpse into the new problems they are facing, from alcoholism and depression to full blown mental breakdowns.
They really looked at the cutesy band anime and decided let's make it realistic, and I for one am intrigued. I can't claim whether or not I like or hate it yet, but it's definitely an interesting direction for the show to take.
